Celebrating Go Skateboarding Day at the Brooklyn Banks almost seemed too good to be true. As skateboarders, we often see spot after spot get taken away from us all too often. However, New York City has now become a blueprint for how skateboarders can fight back. Just a few years after saving Tompkins Park, the NYC skate community has saved another holy ground, and while it may seem too good to be true, it's not—the Brooklyn Banks is here to stay.

This Go Skateboarding Day, we went all out to celebrate not just skateboarding but also the reopening of the Big Banks. All day, it was mayhem in the best way possible, and not even a heat wave or near flooding from an overflow valve could slow it down. We traveled to each iconic section and handed out cash for our favorite tricks. What occurred was an absolute huck fest with some landed tricks, lots of bails, and a crowd that kept the energy going all day.

A huge thank you goes out to Steve Rodriguez, Gotham Parks, VFC Foundation and the Skatepark Project for their efforts in saving this legendary place. Skateboarding deserves it, and we can't wait for the Small Banks to open in September and for a whole new era of the Brooklyn Banks to begin.

An all-time day at an all-time place. Thanks to everyone who showed up. The Brooklyn Banks are officially back, and skateboarding is the greatest thing on the planet. We’ll see you back here in September for the reopening of the Small Banks!
