What is Van Doren Approved?
From the Van Doren Rubber Company to today: a new era of custom culture.
2025-10-01

Since its founding in 1966, the Vans brand has stood for more than just footwear—it’s been a symbol of individuality, creativity, and community. That legacy continues with Steve Van Doren, son of one of the original Vans founders, at the helm of an exciting new project: Van Doren Approved.
After nearly six decades of dedication to the brand, Steve is channeling his deep-rooted passion for customer satisfaction into this new line. Inspired by Vans’ rich heritage and built with community feedback, Van Doren Approved shoes blend the iconic with the innovative, offering something truly special for longtime fans and new wearers alike.
Each pair features artistic designs, bold patterns, and creative storytelling that pays tribute to Vans’ custom roots at the original Van Doren Rubber Company. Special packaging, the return of the original "Van Doren" logo, and a Van Doren Approved character on the insole make this collection not only stylish but deeply personal.

Van Doren Approved Collaborations
What truly sets this project apart are the collaborations. Thanks to Steve Van Doren’s extensive network and lifelong connections, Van Doren Approved has already launched partnerships with an eclectic and meaningful mix of artists and communities.
From working with artist Brady Smith, to partnering with the Born Free Motorcycle Show, to supporting the All Nations Skate Jam—an annual event celebrating Native youth during New Mexico’s Gathering of Nations—these collaborations bring fresh energy and important voices into the Vans story.
Each collab infuses Vans’ classic silhouettes with new life: whether it’s through custom fabrics, original artwork, or storytelling rooted in community and culture.
