Vans hit the deck running when it released the Style 44 in 1966. Later named the Authentic, the understanded silhouette was foundational to the burgeoning brand. It was largely responsible for attracting skaters to the brand and it endured as the longest running silhouette in the Vans lineup.

The Authentic introduced our signature waffle outsole to the world and it quickly became a favorite among skateboarders in Southern California. With our durable and grippy rubber formula, and the quality construction of the simple canvas upper, it had everything skaters were looking for in a shoe.

As the authentic gained popularity outside of skateboarding in the early-70s, it was further refined and reinforced, while always maintaining the original silhouette. Even today, the Authentic is often imitated but replicated.

How to lace Authentic shoes?

Authentic shoes come with four metal eyelet lace rows for sizes 3.5 to 6, and five metal eyelet lace rows for sizes 6.5 and up. Lace them up from the toe eyelets and crisscross your way up, or lace underneath for a clean, straight-laced look.
