In 1965, a young Steve Van Doren stood next to his father, Vans’ founder Paul Van Doren, and met surfing icon Duke Kahanamoku. A relationship was formed between Vans and surfers worldwide, based on simplicity, style, and function. Working with Vans surfers Joel Tudor, Nathan Fletcher, Dylan Graves, Pat, Dane, and Tanner Gudauskas, and Nathan and Ivan Florence, we have set out to create boardshorts inspired by Vans heritage — based on classic lines, innovative materials, and timeless style.

This season’s diversified boardshort collection features an exciting line of bold prints and patterns influenced by Vans heritage style. Each short emphasizes both style and technology, utilizing an array of different fabrics and textures for spring. This season’s standouts are the Era series, the Off the Wall Boardshort, the JT Trimline, and the Captain Fin boardshort.

The Era Classic features a 2-way stretch quality in its cotton/nylon canvas blends to improve range of motion and offer a lighter feel. The Era Classic also features a water resistant finish on the underside of the fabric to prevent rash and allow for a quick dry.

The lightweight Era Stretch performs with an added dobby fabrication providing a more responsive grip and vital anti-chaffing capabilities for any avid surfer. Available this season in a variety of classic patterns and colors as well as shorter outseams for a more retro-inspired look. One of this season’s styles features a hidden print that appears when wet!

A Vans favorite, the JT Trimline offers a touch of Joel Tudor’s signature laid-back, retro style. Additionally, the brand new updated JT Maritime will return for our summer drop, featuring a throwback scalloped style hem, which comes in a short 18” outseam.

Off the Wall Boardshort – As a predominant style in the boardshort offering this season, the Off the Wall Boardshort is a timeless and versatile design. Offered in ten variations utilizing 4-way stretch and Surf suede materials, the Off the Wall short comes in a variety of solids, patterns and prints this spring.
