Go Skate Day: What You Need to Know

On 21 June, the rules loosen a bit. That’s Go Skate Day: part global skate session, part excuse to stay out, hang out and feel the vibe. So grab your board and get out there. It’s a day for anyone who loves skating — or wants to start. Whether you’re mastering that Ollie or just trying to stay on your board, Go Skate Day is a big, open-arms welcome to everything skate.

What is Go Skate Day?

Go Skate Day, also known as Go Skateboarding Day, is all about celebrating, learning, sharing and enjoying the world of skating.
It started in 2004 as a grassroots skate movement in Lake Forest, California. Tony Hawk, Ryan Sheckler, and Heath Kirchart were just some of the pros who turned up that day to skate together.
Since then, Go Skate Day has grown into something much bigger, with events, street sessions, skatepark jams, best trick contests, shop meetups, beginner lessons and community cruises in venues around the world.
No matter where you find yourself, you can get involved as it’s celebrated worldwide, from city skate spots to tiny local parks. And you don’t need an invite to get out there.

When is Go Skate Day 2026?

Go Skate Day takes place every year on 21 June.

If you’re in the UK and looking for all the Go Skate Day London events, start with local skate shops, and community groups. London’s skate scene is everything from street spots to indoor parks, DIY spaces and landmarks, so events can pop up in different places.

How to get involved in Go Skate Day 2026

If you’re new to skating, National Go Skate Day is a great time and place to get started. Head to a beginner-friendly skatepark, join a lesson, ask your local skate shop what’s happening or go with someone who can help you get comfortable.

If you already skate, make a day of it. Go to your usual park. Try a new spot. Get friends together for a cruise. Film a clip. Finally, try the trick you’ve been putting off. Help younger or newer skaters if they need it.

And if there’s nothing happening near you, start something small. Message a few friends, pick a time and place, and skate.

Parents can get involved too. If your kid skates, take them to a local park, help them find a beginner session, or just give them space to roll around and build confidence.

Vans and Go Skate Day

When it comes to Go Skate Day, Vans has been there since the very beginning. Over the years, we’ve supported events across places like New York City, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Auckland, Singapore, Melbourne and Hong Kong, as well as wider events across China, South Korea and Australia.

Some have been big, loud city sessions. Others have been more local: skatepark jams, beginner workshops, giveaways and everyone yelling when someone finally lands a new trick.

Go Skate Day isn’t polished. It’s scuffed grip tape, rough landing and last-try makes. It’s pavement dust, sweaty T-shirts and cheering when someone finally lands the trick they’ve been trying all afternoon.

That’s always been part of the Vans world too. Off The Wall has never just been a slogan. It’s the attitude that runs right through skateboarding: make your own line, find your own spot, and keep going even when it gets messy. And if you need a pair of new skate shoes for men, women or kids, Vans is right there.

So for Go Skate Day 2026, keep it simple. Lace up, grab your board, find a session, or start one yourself. Go skate.
