Tom Schaar

It may seem strange to think of a teenager as a legend but Malibu’s own Tom Schaar has been setting records on all terrain for so long we can’t help but think of him any other way. At age 12 Tom was the youngest to ever land a 900, at 13 he was the first person to ever land a 1080, at 14 he was the youngest to ever win Big Air Gold at the X Games. Since then he’s won the Vans Pool Party and multiple Vans Park Series contests all be before he was of legal age. It seems hard to call Tom anything but a legend in the making.

Interview

WHAT’S THE BEST TRIP YOU’VE EVER BEEN ON?

The best trip I've ever been on was the Element/Blood Wizard trip to the northwest; crazy times with both the teams on one trip.

FAVORITE VANS RIDER?

Pedro Barros, hands down!

WHAT ARE SOME INTERESTS OUTSIDE OF SKATING?

Outside of skate I don't really do much. I'm still in high school and that takes up half my day and the other half is at the park.

WHAT TRICK CAN’T YOU DO THAT YOU WISH YOU COULD?

I wish I could do just a good frontside flip. They look so damn good on tranny and down stuff. Cory Juneau has a proper one.

LAST GOOD BOOK YOU READ?

It's been a while since I've read a book but I really like The Great Gatsby; he has a sick life.

FIVE ESSENTIALS FOR A ROAD TRIP?

Pillow, koozie, sleeping bag, board, leaf blower.
