Chris Russell, the red-headed hellion from Hermosa Beach, affectionately known as ‘The Muscle’ puts his hardcore hometown roots on full display whenever he drops in. Since joining our family at 15 Chris has skated like a 300mph freight train without brakes, smashing everything to disaster that gets in his way. Over the years he’s become one of the most respected rippers in the pool scene and a force to be reckoned with on the contest circuit, winning multiple Vans Park Series titles and destroying our annual Vans Pool Party.
WHAT'S THE BEST TRIP YOU'VE EVER BEEN ON?
Favorite trip would have to be summer 2016 for CPH and the Vans Park series finals. Europe is one of the best spots; the people, the spots and the vibes are like no other. Doesn't hurt that every homie for the states flies out as well.
FAVORITE VANS RIDER?
I love a lot of guys on the team. I’ve known Hosoi for quite some time now growing up skating The Vans Park at The Block... that goes for Pedro Barros as well. On the street side I'm super blown away from Kwalks and Chima; those guys are animals on a board and super rad peeps.
WHAT ARE SOME INTERESTS OUTSIDE OF SKATING?
Some interests outside of skating include food. Ha ha ha. I've always been into fine dining kinda spots. I'm always on the hunt for that next good food spot that I haven't been to. I really like surfing too but just haven't been doing as consistently as I want to. Camping is another one, I love going out with your buds to get down and dirty and maybe find some cliffs to jump off of.
WHAT'S THE BEST STORY YOU'VE EVER HEARD?
I think one of the funniest things I've heard or seen is a pretty known story if you know our filmer. I guess the crew took a trip out to China and this woman told our filmer to hold her kid who was way too big to be held. Well it gets weirder because right as somebody snapped a photo the kid put his mouth on his nip! Probably one the funniest/ grossest photos I've ever seen! Ha ha ha.
WHAT TRICK CAN’T YOU DO THAT YOU WISH YOU COULD?
Wish I could do a lot of things, Ho Hos being one of them. I'm also working on backside fives so hopefully I'll get one of those pretty soon.
LAST GOOD BOOK YOU READ?
I'm currently reading this book called Rich Dad Poor Dad, trying to navigate the more adult things about life. Ha ha ha
