The Van Doren Skate Invitational is Back on August 1st & 2nd

Vans brings the world’s greatest skateboarders back to the beach this summer in skateboarding’s premier bowlriding competition, the celebrated Van Doren Invitational. Held at the Vans US Open in Huntington Beach, CA, top skaters from around the globe will battle it out before a live audience for top honors and their share of more than $135,000 in prize money as the competition hits the global stage live from the Vans Pro Bowl on the sand on August 1st and 2nd.

The invite-only organized jam format will showcase modern bowlriding’s greatest talents, such as current World Bowlriding Champion Pedro Barros, X-Games gold medalist Curren Caples and reigning Van Doren Invitational champion Ben Hatchell, plus top contenders Collin Provost, Raven Tershy and many more. The Van Doren Invitational takes skateboarding at the Vans US Open to new levels with the return of the first-ever all cement bowl on the sand in Huntington Beach (the influence for this year’s X Games Park course in Austin, Texas) inspired by the original bowl riders' Mecca, the legendary Skatepark du Prado bowl in Marseilles, France. Qualifiers for the Van Doren Invitational kick off Friday, August 1st at 4PM with semis and finals beginning Saturday, August 2nd at 3PM at the Vans US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, California. In addition to the main event, Vans also presents the Van Doren Invitational Shop Battle and Women’s events on Sunday, July 27th and Tuesday, July 29th, respectively.

The inaugural Van Doren Invitational debuted at the 2013 Vans US Open of Surfing and concluded its first international edition at the legendary Hastings Bowl in Vancouver, Canada this past weekend. The 2014 Vans US Open of Surfing runs July 26 to August 3 and uses the official hashtag #vansusopen.
