VANS X AVENUE & SON
Vans proudly partners with Shanghai’s premiere skate brand, Avenue & Son, on the “Flicks of Fury” Skate Sid, inspired by the old school kung fu films of their childhood mixed with a bit of influence from modern Shanghai.
Avenue & Son was co-founded in 2014 by skateboarders Stephen Khou, Jeremy Hu, Boss Xie and Dan Leung. In a short span of time, A&S have dominated the China skate scene and bled into the street culture as skaters, musicians, artists and celebrities have all been seen in their gear. They represent the past, present and future of skateboard and street culture in China.
“Skating in the Vans x Avenue & Son Skate Sid is like having a black belt in every form of martial art that exists. You truly become; one with the board.”
- Stephen Khou, co-owner of Avenue & Son
The Skate Sid Vans x Avenue & Son shoe references to key skate cities throughout China – Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Chengdu and more. It features a premium perforated leather upper in case you need to use it as a pillow on the session, custom insole graphics so your socks have something to look at, 3M reflective laces to blind your S-K-A-T-E opponents, a custom 24K gold lace lock (just kidding – about the gold, not the lace lock), heel moustache A&S embroidery so the slow skaters know who’s in the lead, Duracap to withstand the most powerful flicks, and Sick Stick to keep you standing confident and slip free after all them darkslide attempts.
“Be “Off The Wall” my friend” - said Vans China pro skater Jeremy Hu as he unsuccessfully attempted to steal the shoes from his Vans China skate teammates Wang Guohua and XuZhao.
Completely redesigned with skateboarders in mind, the Skate Classics line delivers fully revised uppers that incorporate reimagined patterns and an all-new last for better heel fit. A molded heel counter and locked-in tongue straps with premium heel hold keep feet secure for better control. The DURACAP underlay takes on a new shape, adding flexibility and removing excess bulk to eliminate hot spots, resulting in an essential fit for maximum durability where skaters need it most. Two-part foxing featuring a heavier knurl texture on toe bumpers, as well as Sick Stick, a new proprietary gum rubber compound, increases the durability and longevity of the shoe. In addition, Vans best-in-class PopCush energy-return footbeds snap back and won’t pack out, keeping legs feeling fresh to skate longer.
