Black-owned record stores have always represented more than just a place to buy music to their communities. Vans and Record Store Day have partnered to tell and uplift the story of five stores in a series of short documentaries:

Vans x Record Store Day presents: OPEN DOORS | Ep. 01 – Retrofit Records | VANS

Vans is teaming up with Record Store Day to release two albums, Songs for You, Vols. 1 & 2, to spotlight and support Black-owned record stores. The limited-edition vinyl releases will be available to purchase at independent record stores on Record Store Day 2021 (June 12th). As a salute to the community power of Black-owned businesses, Vans and Record Store Day will reinvest proceeds from the albums into Black-owned record stores across the United States. Additionally, as Black-owned record stores have always represented something more than just a place to buy music in their communities, Vans and Record Store Day have partnered to uplift five stores via a video docuseries launching on April 7th through to June 12th. The docuseries titled ‘Open Doors’ will shine a light on what music does for local communities and what it means to be a black shop owner for the music community in their respective cities. The featured Black-owned record stores include DBS Sounds - Atlanta GA, Retrofit Records - Tallahassee FL, Brittany’s Record Shop - Cleveland OH, Offbeat Music – Jackson MS, 606 Records – Chicago IL.
