Caleb Chomlack takes MVP at Seymour Ninth Stop Recap of the 2018 Vans Hi-Standard Series at Mt. Seymour, B.C, Canada
The Mt. Seymour stop of the 2018 Vans Hi-Standard Series stepped up hard with of the most unique setups of the entire tour so far on Saturday, March 10—and the locals loved it.
For the morning's jam format cash sessions, where riders are awarded $5-bills for landing called tricks with control and style, everyone got a chance to shred a bowled corner into a small jump right next to a 40-foot table top. And right next to that was a monster hip. Combined with sunny skies and spring conditions, it was an epic day to say the least. Vans pro Jake Kusyk was also on hand up to help hand out the $2,000 to the kids, which just helped fuel the stoke.
Caleb Chomlack, whose dad is a well-published shred photographer, totally thrived in it all. His consistent ruling earned him lots of $5-ers and the coveted title of MVP. He'll also join all the other MVPs from each Vans Hi-Standard tour stop for the final next weekend at Sierra-at-Tahoe, California.
"The Mt. Seymour Vans Hi-Standard stop had an absolute insane course set up with a great bunch of snowboarders," said series MC Dane Milligan. "Caleb Chomlack completely dominated the course the entire day earning himself the MVP award."

In the afternoon’s Van Doren Rail Best Trick portion of the event, riders threw down in another jam format on a setup that included a down rail, a down-flat-down rail, a flat rail and a cannon.
Last year's young winner, Truth Smith, got a repeat this year and took home $200 for his killer Frontside Boardslide, 270-Out on the down rail in the 15 and Under division. And in the 16 and Up category, Samuel Gagnon’s massive Can 270 mega gap to the down rail earned him the well-deserved $300 in cash.
By the end of the day, the award for the Most Improved Rider went to Ryan Gates and the Worst Bail went to Josh Cielen.
Not to be outdone by all the incredible talent on this hill, the Mt. Seymour stop's House of Vans Art Workshop featured famed Vancouver artist, Andrew Pommier, who painted up two pairs of Sk8-HIs to raffle off to one lucky participant: James Martin. Like every stop of the series, everyone here got to take home their own free pair of Vans customized with their own art.
The 2018 Vans Hi-Standard series concludes with grand finale at Sierra-at-Tahoe on Saturday, March 17th. This year, the series hit South Korea, China, Finland, the United States and Canada—and at every stop, registration was free. Vans also covered lift tickets and a lunch for all participants—and freshly made waffles hot off the irons.
