The Vans Hi-Standard Successfully Kicked Off in Beijing
The international snowboard jam insists on the principle of “Style is Everything”
China (January 24, 2017) – Vans Hi-Standard snow jam was successfully kicked off in Beijing MELLOWPARKS on January 21st, with over 60 riders in attendance.
On the morning of the event, Beijing swept away the days of haze weather. The blue sky and white snow park formed a pleasant backdrop for the Vans Hi-Standard snow jam. Two global riders, Marcus Rand and Brian Skorupski from the Yawgoons Crew, came all the way from Rhode Island, USA via the Hi-Standard in Seoul, Korea, bringing their creative blend of rail tricks to the excitement of locals.
With no age limitation for participants, riders as young as 10 and as old as 55 still challenged themselves on the MELLOWPARKS course. At the same time, female participation was strong with riders earning their style points on both the kicker and rail obstacles. Van Doren cash rained down on Saturday for those who put style first. Two global riders, Marcus and Brian captured the most attention with their creative outlook on almost every obstacle. Off their board, the Yawgoons crew were more than stoked to share in the excitement with local riders.
After the event, Vans prepared a meal of hot and delicious waffles, free beer and pizzas. The men’s and women’s MVP honors were bestowed on Vans sponsored riders Yan Yong from Xin Jiang and his girlfriend Xiao Xue, whose overall performance stocked out both guys and girls. As a reward they received customized Hi-Standard clocks and product packs. The Most Improved title was earned by 55 year old Liu Hai Chuan, who landed a perfect switch 50-50 across the rail.
“I love China riders, they are amazing and the snow park here is also interesting! We wish we could come back to China next year to go snowboarding with you guys again!” Marcus Rand said after the event. For more pictures and video of China’s Hi-Standard, log onto www.vans.com.cn
