PNUT
BIO:
Greg "Pnut" Galinsky was influenced by his diverse upbringing of a Burmese mother and Lithuanian father coupled with growing up in Santa Monica near the ocean and skate parks of Los Angeles. Inspired by funk, reggae, jazz, hip hop and Punk Rock, pnut's work finds him drawn to structure with aspects of architecture evident in his compositions. Through mixed techniques and media, Galinsky always strives to capture the spirit of all that he loves in each work. Inspiration: This OTW logo means a great deal to me it's almost like a family crest of the west coast if you wore VANS back in the day and were from the west side. ( Santa Monica or along the coast ) My interpretation on this piece is several elements that many of us can relate to of icons we grew up to from : waves, skulls, skateboards, backyard pools, beatnik twists, palm trees and life style. The medium I developed is called "hot pockets" using icons in pocket shapes to create a collage of negative positive drawings/paintings. ( application: Acrylic on wood and resign) Vans Story: People can be very protective of there VANS is what I experienced when I was 5 years old. I lived on 5th and Washington in Santa Monica and my buddy lived on 6th and Washington, before we became friends we met through our shoes ( Vans) in an empty dirt lot causin' a bit of trouble just being kids.He approached me with my navy autheuntics on while he had just got the new Hawaiian slip on joints, we were just about to fight re: who's Vans were more classic and then we decided to bro down and were still hangin' out 30 years later!
