Ryan Villopoto Wins Back-to-Back Supercross Championships

Posted 04/02/2012 06:00:00 by Kelly

Vans congratulates Monster Energy Kawasaki and Vans’ motocross team rider Ryan Villopoto on clinching a second consecutive AMA Supercross Championship Saturday night at Reliant Stadium in Houston. The title caps what has been an incredibly consistent season thus far with Villopoto winning eight of 13 races including three in a row twice, while clinching the title with four races still left in the series.

That marks the quickest championship clinch in Supercross history, surpassing Jeremy McGrath who claimed the title with three races remaining in 1996. Villopoto is also the first back-to-to back Supercross champion since Ricky Carmichael in 2005-06.

Villopoto, of Poulsbo, WA, continues his amazing run after a historic 2011 season that included winning the AMA Supercross and AMA Motocross Championships, being part of the United States’ winning Motocross of Nations team and claiming the largest payday ever in the sport of $1 million by capturing the Monster Energy Cup at year’s end.

Villopoto fans can show their support for the champ with two Vans Ryan Villopoto-endorsed shoes, the Ruark and the Fontana. Each shoe is accented in Ryan’s green, yellow and blue race kit colors and Ryan’s signature artwork and number.

Racing returns to action on Saturday, April 14 at the Superdome in New Orleans and then runs weekly until May 5 in Las Vegas.
