As we get our last laughs out with the first of the month its time to brush off those mini-ramp skills and get in the session! With a new season, comes a new bread of skaters. This month's BT brought all of the younger local skaters together for one big Mini Ramp Jam! As the contest started no one hesitated to get to work. Locals Steven and Dylan Usma did just that. Steven popped a huge nollie from little to big extension no problem, while Dylan got to work on the escalator with a switch crook up back to switch! New OSP rider Josue Sanchez got down to business with the wall. With what? THE WALL! Josue displayed a perfect presentation of our motto "Off The Wall" with a huge backside wallride out of the mini ramp! Crazy! I know! Also, Sarasota ripper Tyler Hunger stepped up to the plate, he put his heart and soul into an early melon grab 540! Is HE crazy?...No, I haven't told you crazy until I tell you about John Stowe. John started out the contest nice and easy with a little frontside 5-0 here and a little backside hurricane there. But John said "I'm going up!", and he did just that. John took the last remaining tries of the contest to float up from little extension to the big 11 foot extension to a frontside 5-0 pivot! All the skaters and on lookers went wild and by crowd vote John took this month's best trick contest! Congrats to Josue and Tyler as well for coming out and giving everyone a show! Our next best trick obstacle is on the Main Street Course High Bar. So as the weather heats up here in Florida, so do the best trick contests! Don't miss the next one!

Vans Skatepark
The Block in Orange, CA
Words & Video By: Chris Davis

This month's Best Trick took place at the up-flat-down ledges on the beginner course. Though small and low to the ground, these ledges prove to be a really fun and challenging features. The Block's beginner street course is tucked under the upstairs viewing area, so this month's contest was "skaters only". More than 15 skaters entered the contest, and right off that bat we saw great warm-up tricks like 50-50s and 5-0s all the way across the up-flat-down. Then the game was stepped up and we saw noseslides, krook to 5-0 combos, boardslide to grind combos, shove-it combos. Brian Abraham did a sweet kickflip backside tailslide, Anthony Carrillo did a very stylee krooked grind through the entire ledge, and Charlie Blair nailed a nice kickflip backside 5-0. But in the end it was Dew Tour veteran Austen Seaholm who showed up to win his free pair of Vans shoes. It only took him about five minutes of the fifteen minute jam session to log enough banger tricks to confidently take the win. He did a killer tailslide 270-out, but it was his backside 5-0 to switch krooked grind that won him the free shoes. The skill that it takes to rotate on your back trucks from a 5-0 to a switch krook is mind blowing and very deserving of Austen's new spot on the best trick plaque.
