Well we've just transitioned into July down here in the Sunshine State, and as anyone who has ever visited Florida during the summer will tell you...IT IS HOT!! We figured what better way to beat the heat than to host our own air-conditioned mini Pool Party for this month's Best Trick contest. In front of a shoulder-to-shoulder crowd on the pool deck, and about twenty mezzanine onlookers, the twelve or so participating riders set the fireworks off early and put on a 3rd of July spectacular for all of us here at the park. Starting with local Daniel Guidice a.k.a. Carvin' Marvin busting out some serious frontside carves followed by a lay-down 5.0 and a stalefish over the small hip. From there 12-year-old pool ripper Stone Denning came through with a fakie 540 revert and a picturesque Miller Flip in the deep end. Also in the mix was Dalton Dern who put up some serious competition with his arsenal of bangers, including a massive melon to flat, blunt to fakie in the deep end. But, when it came time to sink or swim (get it!?) it was local Jacob Welch who roasted the weenies with his explosively creative rocket air blunt to fakie to take home the bragging rights and a free pair of Vans shoes!

The loading dock...this is definitely one of our most skated obstacles on the course lately. I personally would blow a knee or ankle out with the air these kids are pulling off this thing. We had most of our locals involved Brian Abraham, Anthony Carillo, Carlos Cordova, and Josh Hawksby just to name a few. There were also some unknown rippers that jumped in on the action...a few of them skating here for the first time and were super excited to get involved in the contest. The guys were killing it right off the bat! Hammerin out huge tre flips, varials, and frontside flips. Justin Dryson, a past winner, had an impressive bag of tricks nailing a big spin, Cab, tre flip, BS flip, and varial heel...I know sounds crazy that he was not the winner right? It came down to Tyler Thompson and Brian Abraham. Brian had been trying a double tre flip the last couple minutes, but couldn't ride out of it. Then Tyler throws it down with a fakie full cab flip. Nasty stuff there. Tyler walks out with some new fresh kicks and his first spot on the plaque.
