Snowboarder's Weekend Recap

We took this day to return to the roots of snowboarding. We stood humbled at the foot of a finely tuned feature, which hardly resembled the icy East Coast ditch where man first grabbed a snowboard method two-dozen or so years ago. As the riders soared, the congregation followed them with their eyes into the blue, blue sky. Let us give thanks for this miraculous creation.
Riders and tricks come and go, the halfpipe will always be there marked by bright moments of the past. Shredders today left their mark on both walls clear and big. Elena Hight boosted onto the top podium with her frontside 900 and big clean airs. Lizzy Beerman, who spun clean back-to-back 540s, followed closely behind Hight. After landing a stylish inverted frontside 540, Kjersti Buaas landed in third place.
The Men’s final was pushed by a supernatural wind, allowing riders to fly higher than many birds. Andy Finch grasped the full attention of the crowd with his double-overhead alley-oop airs. Iouri Podladtchikov spun his way to third place with the biggest 1080 of the day. Louie Vito, 2nd place, did back-to-back 1080s and back-to-back 900s in his run. In the end, Danny Kass reigned on the parade. His clean spins and held grabs did the trick.
It was a long and satisfying weekend like a five-course meal. We indulged ourselves in fine snowboarding and toasted to honorable tricks. Before we put this thing to sleep, let’s turn to the mountains, sprinkle some snow in the fire and give each other high-fives for turning a normal weekend in March into a pilgrimage that will not soon be forgotten. Here’s to Vans, Northstar, Rockstar, Snowboarder Magazine and all the people who made the Vans Cup happen!
