Andreas Wiig claimed his second straight Vans Cup Slopestyle title and Cheryl Maas continued a weekend on the podium with her win as the Vans Cup at Tahoe concluded a second day at Northstar-at-Tahoe resort. Norwegian Wiig, $20,000 richer after today, continued a string of major Slopestyle titles as he has now won the Vans Cup and X Games each in back-to-back fashion. It took a bit of final run heroics for Wiig as top qualifier Mason Aguirre put the pressure on with his 2nd and final run that had him in the top spot. But Wiig then nailed a Front 1080 to Backside Rodeo 900 on the last run of the day to seal the title. The Dutch Maas, who lives in surf haven Biarritz, took third in Friday night’s Rail Jam and added another $15,000 to her pocket with her win on Saturday.
Sunday’s Superpipe contest is sure to be epic with more than $75,000 up for grabs and Danny Kass, Mason Aguirre, Steven Fisher and Iouri Podlatchokov among those vying for the top spot. The ladies will be led by Kjersti Buaas Oestgaard and Cheryl Maas who will be going for her third podium in three days.
