Hana Beaman Interview

Posted 10/15/2007 04:49:00 by i am vans

1. How long have you been a professional snowboarder?
I've been a pro for about six years now. I would say I turned pro after the Snowboarder Magazines Superpark in Mammoth in 2001. That’s when I signed most of my first contracts. It was pretty cool.

2. Give three words that define you.
Relaxed, Determined, Goofy

3. What motivates you and drives you?
I get motivated to just be the best I can be. Whether it's snowboarding or cleaning my house. If I think I can do something, I will do it. It might take me 100 times, and I might do it wrong a few times, but I will get it. And fun is a big motivator too! I like to have a good time.

4. What has been your greatest accomplishment?
In snowboarding, it would be wining the TransWorld Snowboarding, Women’s Rider of the Year this past year. It really meant a lot to me. And out of snowboarding, buying my first house at 20. That was so big for me and I was so stoked to have a place of my own to call home.

5. When not snowboarding you can be found?
Hopefully at home, or I like to hang at the beach and go surfing with friends. Getting some chill time is always good so I like to be mellow when I can.

6. If you weren't a pro snowboarder what would you be?
I'm not sure. I have so many interests that I'm not sure what else I could be as passionate about. I'm waiting for a sign to guide me in the direction.

7. What does the 2007/ 2008 season hold for you?
Lots of powder. I missed out on it last season so it's kind of the main priority this season. I just want to really film a lot and have a great time riding.

8. What contests are you most looking forward to?
I guess the X-games. They are the first big contest of the year and I always get a bit antsy before them so I'll be glad once they are over and done with.

9. What advice would you give to someone trying to break into snowboarding?
Go for it. Practice, and believe in yourself.

10. Any words to live by?
Respect, Boo-yaka-sha!
