Festival Bay Mall
Words By: Bryan Pederson
Ever heard the saying "Walk like an Egyptian"? Well tonight was the night everyone skated like an Egyptian. Tonight we held our best trick contest on the Pyramid in the main street course. And let me be the first to say, tonight was a doozy. When the jams got pumping, so did the skating! Kanaan Dern, hometown hero #1, jump started the contest with a huge frontside 180 over the pyramid to flat! Also, Kanaan busted a huge kickflip to flat. There are only a few brave souls that can skate the pyramid to flat and Kanaan is one of them. Flying in next was Brian Ortiz, hometown hero #2. Brian, killing it so hard with alley-oop frontside and backside flips on the hip. Making all the girls scream, he spun a huge backside 360 over the pyramid...murder, she wrote! Brian

Alex Knost Wins the Santa Cruz Duct Tape Invitational
Posted 01/17/2011 by Kelly
We had great weather and waves on the final day of the Joel Tudor Duct Tape Invitational presented by Vans where team rider Alex Knost took the win. Behind him was Harrison Roach in 2nd place, followed by Ryan Burch in 3rd and Chad Marshall in the 4 spot. Near the end of competition, we all thought Jason "ratboy" Collins won the board sacrifice award, but Chad came from nowhere and chucked his (new looking) log nose first downward at the rocks on the cliff. Needless to say, he took home that trophy. Right after we wrapped the event, we trucked everyone over to Derby Skate Park for some shredding and pizza. In the evening we had our last dinner followed by the awards, and Dirt Dress performed live. It was such a great event, big thanks to all the competitors and everyone who help make this event happen! Until the next roll of Duct Tape...

Ryan Villopoto had another great ride this past weekend, he's showing more confidence on the track with taking the evening heat race win with ease rewarding RV with a top gate pick for the 450 main event. Villopoto didn't quite get the jump that he was looking for once the gate fell back, but was able to gain momentum on Stewart but unfortunately a little past the halfway point Ryan lost his front end and went down in a very slick corner. He was able to remount quickly to eventually cross the checkers in second place!! Ryan Villopoto maintains the points lead while heading into this weekends third round at LA's Dodger Stadium!

The Vans Moto crew crushed the competition this past weekend at the sold-out, first round of the 2011 Monster Energy Supercross Series in Anaheim, California, with Ryan Villopoto taking the win in the premier 450 class! Coming off an injury, RV's main goal this past weekend was to get good starts and ride a smart race to get the cobwebs out his system and get the feel of racing back in his blood, and he did exactly that.
