Vans supported musician, Matt Costa, just kicked off his summer long international tour on Wednesday! At the much-anticipated outdoor National Motocross series opener at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, California, over the weekend, Vans team riders Austin Stroupe and Ryan Villopoto were on fire, finishing first and second overall, respectively.
Atlanta's heavy rock hero's MASTODON have chosen famed producer Brendan O'Brien to record the follow up to their 2006 Reprise Records album debut, BLOOD MOUNTAIN. One of the most-respected American record producers of all-time, Brendan O'Brien has worked with a diverse range of artists including Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen and AC/DC to name a few. Sessions will begin immediately.
Hot on the heels of a five-month European tour, including dates with Velvet Revolver and Dropkick Murphys, Year Long Disaster make a triumphant return to their hometown of Los Angeles to celebrate the release of their first music video. The animated video for the single, "Leda Atomica," was written and directed by Matt Maiellaro and his team from Aqua Teen Hunger Force / Adult Swim and is making it's worldwide debut on the Adult Swim website.
When he's not busy managing the Vans and Pro-tec Canadian skateboarding team, Montreal based Eric Mercier manages to catch a few session to himself, including this recent one where he landed the cover of Canada's Expose Magazine.
Even with his laid back persona, be cautious next time you get in the water with pro longboard legend and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world runner up, Joel Tudor. While the snow is melting the awards are piling up for a certain Vans Snow team rider. Andreas Wiig recently won his second straight Exposure-Meter title from Transworld Business! Andreas had a late season surge to blow by a certain flying tomato to take the '07/08 exposure meter title. Vans is unsure if Andreas can get anymore more popular. Then again, there's always ‘American Idol.’

Volcom Stone held their Totally Crustaceous Muscle Beach Party Surfing Championships at 54th in Newport over the weekend. The Vans Surf Team had a strong showing (pun totally intended) heading home with a large portion of the $100,000 in prize money. Erica Hosseini took the other "Iron Curlers" (Girls) down by winning her division and Sage Erickson placed 2nd. As for the "Keg Tossers" (Juniors), Andrew Doheny ripped his way to 4th place and "Ratboy," Jason Collins took 3rd in the "Squat Thrusters" (Air) division. Big ups to the Vans Surf crew for pumping it up!

The 4th Annual Red Bull Elevation BMX Dirt Jumping Contest went down this weekend in Guadalajara, Mexico, as a kick-off to the 2008 season. Elevation has risen to the top as the most progressive BMX Dirt Jumping contest in the world and this year Vans team riders TJ Ellis and Cam White made it into the finals, with Cam White being crowned champion! Cam White blew everyone away at the end of 2007 with his signature trick; the backflip barspin to tailwhip and he pulled it out at Elevation en route to the podium. Be sure to check out these guys all summer long on the AST Tour. If Cam and TJ are killing it now, this summer should be madness.

As the newest Vans Surf Team rider, Andrew Dohney is the top surfer for his age group in the nation at just 15 years old. The Newport Beach native has won close to 90 NSSA competitions and is already on his second passport. To read more about Andrew, pick up the LA Times at your local newsstands today. Be prepared to hear a lot more about Andrew as this is only the beginning.
