Grenade Games

Vans teamed up with Danny Kass and Grenade to put on this year's Grenade Games at Snoqualmie, WA. Featuring a stage full of bands, a mechanical bull and bakery strategically placed at mid mountain, the 4/20 half pipe jam was the main attraction with rippers such as Danny and Eddie Wall soaring high above the pipe with ease. The slopestyle and a Chinese Downhill went down the next day. If you weren’t there, you missed out. Keep an eye out for next years event.

The Vans Skatepark in Orlando will again be hosting the Bucky Lasek/Vans Vert Camp with the multiple X Games and Dew Tour gold medalist. The camp will last two days, Thursday, May 31 and Friday, June ,1 from 8am - 12pm and is geared to intermediate/advanced vert skaters looking to fine tune their skills. Some very exciting plans are in the works to do a major TV show based on the Ernie Ball Vans Warped Tour Battle of the Bands. As it stands right now, 12 bands from this year's contest will be selected to play on the entire Vans Warped Tour 2008 competing each week to win fans, sell merchandise, and be featured to a national audience each week live on TV.

Today is Sunday April 15, 2007 and as I write this I’m sitting on an airplane on my way back home from my adventurous trip to Los Angeles. The kick off party was this past weekend, and a party it was…. It all started Thursday for me. I awoke from my bed to the sound of my 5:00 alarm. Though it was early I was not hesitant to put my eager feet on the ground. I got all ready to head to the glamorous city of Los Angeles.

Congrats To Bucky

Vans would like to congratulate Bucky Lasek on his sixth place finish at last weekends Long Beach Grand Prix. Bucky had a rough start for his first year driving in the pro division. "I went into the first turn too hot and had to go off on the warning track" said Lasek. Bucky was able to work his way back into sixth position where he finished.

2007 Pool Party - What makes a legend?

What makes a legend? Is a legend born out of moth-eaten texts, stories passed down from generation to generation, with each re-telling becoming more extravagant than the last? Is a legend nothing more than a series of overly tall tales which no one can refute nor prove? I try to avoid the word legend, because it generally reeks of dragons, impossibly handsome knights rescuing impossibly beautiful princesses, elves, magical dwarves, wizards and the like. A bit too 4th grade for my tastes. The problem here is that few other superlatives can accurately describe the Vans ProTec Pool Party.

Warped Site Venue Updates

A couple of site updates have been announced for the tour.

The Miami show is at Bicentennial Park, not Bayfront Park as listed earlier.
The tour is now playing Edmonton instead of Calgary and the venue is the Northlands Park Fairgrounds.
The Denver stop will be Invesco Field at Mile High.
The Jacksonville show will be at Reynolds Park Yatch Center.
Toronto show will be at Burl's Creek Park in Toronto, Ontario.

April Skatepark Clinics

There will be Saturday clinics this month at The Block and Orlando. Orlando will host one clinic on April 21. The Block will host two clinics on April 21 and 28. Our Saturday clinics offer beginner to intermediate instruction for skateboarders. Cost is $40 for members and $50 for nonmembers. Hours are from 8am - 12pm (8am - 10am is instruction and 10am - 12pm is free skate with instructors present) Please call your local park for more information.

Combi Pool At The Block To Close For A Week

We will be closing the combi pool at the Block of Orange Monday, April 9th - Monday, April 16th. We have hired Rick Carje to redo the pool coping and fix loose tiles. After listening to a couple riders suggestions we are taking action to make our Pool better for this upcoming contest. Please be patient and respectful to our skatepark employees. This is a Steve Van Doren decision. He wants the best for everybody. You will be able to skate again on the 17th. Thank you for you cooperation.

Unsigned bands looking to play on the 2007 Vans Warped Tour should head over to battle of the bands. Now in its 11th year, the annual contest has proven to be a springboard for many of today's leading artists. This year, over 200 unsigned bands will be selected by a panel of judges to play at their hometown venue.

Also, a full lineup of headlining acts have been announced to play on The Ernie Ball Stage. Performing bands include: Throwdown, It Dies Today, Valencia, MC Chris, My American Heart, The Fall of Troy, Buck-O-Nine, The Chariot, Jonezetta, Daphne Loves Derby, Lorene Drive, Monty Are I, Evaline, Social Code, The Salads, Mustard Plug, and many more. Playstation Am Jam Tour at The Block!

The Woodward / Playstation Am Jam Tour will hit The Block April 14. The contest will be open to skateboard, bmx and inline ams ages 7 - 18. Registration will be held the day of the contest and the cost is $10 per rider. Winners from each 11 stops of the tour will compete in the finals for $5,000 cash!
