Getting Fucked Up in the Afternoon
Best show of yesterday afternoon was by far Fucked Up. If you've never seen them, you're missing out. Damian takes about one second to get off the stage & into the crowd. Everyone was chanting, "David! David! David!" So Damian says, "Ok, you guys want us to play "David?" People lost their minds. The pit was a gd mess, but a happy "Ima take care ah you, dawg" kinda mess. How you going to have smiling security guards? Their newest release, "Year of the Tiger" came out in February on Matador.
Lucero & Amazingness
Ran into Oliver Peck & watched Lucero with him for a bit. Too much good people watching to stay still for long, though.

Vans Demo at Orion Fest
A few sneaky photos from the demos at the festival yesterday. It was super fun. One of the stages was right behind us, so the dudes got to to their thing while The Sword was playing. Badass. Ride the Lightning
Metallica, all day long, for 12 hours, we waiting to Ride the Lightning. Regan, JLay, and I were watching from the nosebleeds & drinking Bud tallboys, but B-Ball was down front getting the instagold. Every few minutes one of us would turn to the other & say, "This is awesome!" That happened about 700 times. Well, because it was. Can't wait for the Black Album tonight.
Hot Snakes & Lars & a Zombie
So I guess I figured out who put Hot Snakes on the bill. Lars from Metallica was watching. Throw in Roky Erickson's band plus everyone from Vans, Amy Gunther & her friends, and really, there could not have been a better crowd. Oh, and duh, I was there next leveling it with my friend Lia. Then we found a zombie.
Roky Erickson
Roky Erickson is one of those dudes I'd love to get a beer with, but I'm afraid his stories would put me at risk of knowing too much and ending up in the trunk of a car somewhere. He's a legend and legend's can wear cartoon network hats & put a cigarette out on your neck and shred. His band was pretty tight, too.
The Sword
Chris, Chris, Chris, Chris, Xeno & I rolled up to the fest right when it opened yesterday. What can I say? We're go-getters. The first band we checked out were The Sword.
Metallica
Headlining both nights, Metallica will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the 'Black Album' by playing it in its entirety on one night AND all of 'Ride the Lightning' for the first time ever on the other night! You'd be crazy if you even think about missing this epic performance.
Fucked Up
If Fucked Up's song gets you all fired up, just wait until this weekend. The hardcore, punk band is ready to rock the stage. Are you ready to headbang with them?
