2011 HIC ProSunset Turns On For HIC PRO
Sunset Beach pumped out flawless 6-foot surf today for the opening rounds of the $85,000 HIC PRO, presented by Vans. Velvet smooth conditions and consistent swell lines signaled the official start of the 2011 Hawaiian winter surf season.
Today's top scores were posted by Kamalei Alexander (HI), Stephan Figueiredo (Brazil), Joel Centeio (HI) and Kahea Hart (HI), who enjoyed a midday pulse of swell in their back-to-back heats.

2011 HIC ProHIC Pro Eyes Looming Monday Swell
The 14-day holding period of the $85,000 HIC PRO, presented by Vans, opens today at Sunset Beach. Organizers have elected to call a lay day today in preparation for a solid new swell that is forecast for Monday and Tuesday.
The HIC PRO is a 4-Star ASP men's event that will decide the 2011 ASP Hawaii regional champion and reward him with one highly coveted berth into the first two events of the Vans Triple Crown, presented by Rockstar Energy Drink, Nov.12 - Dec.20. The HIC PRO requires three full days of competition to crown a champion.
Hawaii Winter Surf Season Launches Oct. 28th with HIC Pro
Winter waves are pulsing onto Oahu's North Shore with regularity, signaling that the world renowned big wave Hawaiian surf season is upon us. The HIC Pro at Sunset Beach - the precursor to the annual Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, presented by Rockstar Energy Drink - will kick-start the season, running October 28th through November 10th on the best three days of surf.
The HIC Pro is an $85,000 4-Star ASP men's event that will decide the 2011 ASP Hawaii regional champion and reward him with one highly coveted berth into the first two events of the Vans Triple Crown series: the Reef Hawaiian Pro at Haleiwa (Nov. 12-23), and the Vans World Cup of Suring at Sunset Beach (Nov. 25-Dec. 6). More than 100 surfers, mostly from Hawaii, will be on hand to take on the powerful and challenging surf on offer at Sunset Beach.
Maui's Billy Kemper Wins Vans Presents The HIC Pro
Maui's Billy Kemper, 20, posted the largest win of his fledgling pro surfing career when he won the Vans Presents The HIC Pro at Sunset Beach today. The victory also netted him the 2010 ASP Hawaii regional pro title and a start in next week's Vans Triple Crown of Surfing. Kemper surfed a total of four times today and survived a close final tussle in inconsistent 10- to 12-foot surf to claim the $12,000 winner's check.
Andy Irons Memorial Service Set for Nov. 14, Kauai
Andy Irons, a world champion surfer adored by fans the world over, passed away unexpectedly on November 2, 2010, at the age of 32. Andy was a loving and devoted husband, adored son and soon-to-be father. Andy is survived by his wife Lyndie, his brother Bruce and parents Phil and Danielle. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. A memorial service will take place on Sunday, November 14, 2010 at 11am at Pine Trees in Hanalei Bay, Kauai. The service will include an honorary paddle-out to pay tribute to his legacy. There will be a second and closing ceremony to celebrate his life during the start of this year's Pipe Masters.
