Aerial standout Josh Kerr has gone absolutely mental in his opening heats at the 2011 Vans Pier Classic, blasting the highest scores of the morning with his patented above the lip madness. Now that he's living in Carlsbad, California, Kerr made the jaunt up from San Diego County to compete in the Vans Pier Classic and today's display of powerful carves and grab-rail reverses were a perfect example of why he's one of the world's best surfers. The talented Aussie will take to the water again tomorrow in Round 3. Still to surf at the Vans Pier Classic are ASP World Tour surfers Damien Hobgood, Adriano de Souza, Taylor Knox and Vans team riders Andrew Doheny, Jason 'Ratboy' Collins and Hawaiian Ivan Florence.
