The Girl Obstacle in progress as the Vans Downtown Showdown gets ready for action at the Paramount Studios in Hollywood, CA, USA
The forecast for the next 2 days at Paramount Studios in Hollywood California is for a chance of thunder showers, high heat, humidity and a 100% chance of radness as the 6th annual Vans Downtown Showdown invades the historical movie studio. Technically the event is a contest; with timed heats and cash-money prizes, but really the Downtown Showdown has the feel of more of a block party. It’s an event where the losers have as much as the winners and the crowd, may even have more fun than the contestants. Vans, the oldest skateboard shoe company around, knows how to throw an event where the skaters are the priority. The Vans Downtown Showdown is run by skaters, built by skaters, and for skaters. As we web nerds peck away, the four obstacles, designed by skateboard companies Zero, Foundation, Black Label and Girl are being built as some eager participants warm up with flat ground tricks waiting for the obstacles to be completed.
The city of Los Angeles is home to the greatest skateboarders of all time, throughout the next few days many of them will be stopping by Paramount Studios to skate in the event. In addition to those skating in the event, many other top skaters will be stopping by just to see the action, catch up friends and just maybe grab a beer and hot dog (cooked by Steve Van Doren himself). If you can’t make it down in person, make sure to watch it live vans.com/showdown
