With Hurricane Irene expected to make landfall on Saturday as a category 3 storm, event organizers are looking to prepare for an early finish to this year's Coastal Edge presents Vans Pro and Vans Pro Junior, which means today will be a marathon day of surfing! The good news is, Miss Irene has delivered improved three-foot waves at 1st Street Jetty. Today's action is set to see the heavy hitters take to the water, with all of the event's top seeds scheduled to surf today! Big names to watch out for include Vans boys Andrew Doheny and Dylan Graves, as well as former World Tour surfers Roy Powers, Nathan Yeomans and Nathaniel Curran.
In addition to the men's main Vans Pro, surfers that need to secure their spot on the 2011 ASP World Junior Tour will also be battling today. Progressive freak Kolohe Andino will definitely be looking to secure his first Pro Junior crown while Conner Coffin, Luke Davis and Droid will definitely look for a strong finish, as the Vans Pro Junior marks the final stop on the ASP North America Pro Junior Series.
To add to the spiciness of World Junior Qualification, San Diegan Jake Halstead, Tayler Brothers, Florida boy Evan Thompson and Los Angeles standout Dane Zaun are within striking distance to overtake one of the Top 4 slots on the rankings to qualify for the under-21 global elite.
