Thorne Leads, Kobayashi Ousts De Col in Round of 48 of Vans Pro Junior

Newport Beach surfer Taylor Thorne lead Round 3 of Coastal Edge presents Vans Pro Junior action today when he belted the day's top scores with an 8-point single-wave score and a solid 14.83 heat total. Thorne hunted down the best wave of his heat and laid down seamless rail-to-rail power surfing to earn the top scores and a spot into Round 4. The dedicated ASP North America Pro Junior Series competitor is hungry to end his season with a bang, as the Vans Pro Junior represents the final stop on the regional series for 2011.
San Clemente, California surfer Shaw Kobayashi got the best of a tough heat, taking a victory over New Yorker Balaram Stack, who advanced in second, and dispatched of fellow Orange County surfer Colin Moran as well as Peruvian standout Cristobal De Col. De Col's elimination came as a surprise, as the Lima native detonated a nearly flawless performance in his opening heat yesterday. Kobayashi is also on the hunt for the heap of points on offer at the ASP 4-Star rated Pro Junior contest so he can compete at his home break of Lower Trestles next season.
