RULES & JUDGING
•Head Judge – Clovis Donizetti plus 3 Judges
•Judges will score each wave ridden using Vans Duct Tape criteria on a scale from 1-10. 1 being a poor execution of criteria &/or poor wave selection. 10 being perfect execution in every field of Vans Duct Tape criteria, as well as excellent wave selection.
•If any competitors have questions about the heat results, they will be able to speak with the head judge after competition has paused for the day. The head judge is unable to leave their working position while competition is running.
Board Requirements:
•Single fin longboard (no side fins & must be 3ft over your height)
•No leashes
•Before entering the first heat, competitor's boards must meet approval by contest directors
CRITERIA
•Judging criteria for this event has a narrowed focus on flow, control, and performance maneuvers. Judges would like to see riders surfing the pocket, avoiding flat sections, and making the best use of the wave’s energy while maintaining total control at all times. How riders engage their rail and maintain speed throughout their turns will also be a point of focus. Ideally, we’re looking for a well-rounded mix of classic style from the likes of longboarding icons’ (Nat Young, David Nu’uhiwa, Rell Sunn, Joyce Hoffman) to technical aspects of modern day “performance maneuvers”.
Flow
•Transitioning from one maneuver into the next with an even state of inertia, using full potential of the wave’s available power. Ideally looking for riders to engage their rail making clean turns instead of pushing the board from the tail.
Style & Control
•Judges will be looking for riders to showcase creativity, originality, and unique approaches in their surfing. Maintaining complete control of your board while navigating through maneuvers is also important.
•Performance maneuvers is not only radical progressive surfing, but functional maneuvers that also aid the surfer in navigating through sections efficiently to the best positioning on the wave. Analyzing the wave and performing precise maneuvering with control & coordination.
