02.08.10Gary Young Scores Cover Of Undersea Journal ...What?! So if you didn't know, Gary Young is a bit of a scuba diver. In between trips around the world to ride his bike he hangs out under the water with the people at PADI. Do that long enough and you're bound to end up on the cover of a magazine. Just business as usual for Gary. Gary will be in Spain all this week filming for the San Diego BMX video. I guess you can't do that in San Diego.
02.02.10Vans Jedi Jam, Taupo, NZ January 30th and 31st Cory "Nasty" Nastazio and I were lucky enough to attended a Dirt and Park Jam in New Zealand, one of the nicest countries in the world. The event was hosted by top NZ BMXer Jed Mildon in his hometown of Taupo.
Nasty and I landed in Auckland airport and were greeted by a crew and we hopped in the back of a van and headed off to Taupo, it took five and a half hours to get to our destination! We didn't know that, but driving through a beautiful country like this was a pleasure. We arrived eventually and checked into a cabin near the river that Jed arranged and we went to sleep.
We woke up the next morning to go check the park and jumps. The park was really good, heaps of different trannys and weird stuff to ride. It was a pleasure to watch Jed ride his local park; he knows it off by heart. The jumps needed some love so Nasty spent some time on them getting them dialed, then they were ready to ride. The jumps were a simple set of quads of a fun medium size, that you got speed from a double-stacked shipping container. The containers weren't to long so you had to start with your cranks backwards, and half crank in and that was a bit weird at first, but everyone got the hang of it. A massive bonus was a scissor lift that took us to the top of the second container, no ghetto ladder or blown out calf's from walking up a steep roll in.
We started off the day of the dirt contest with an appearance on a local radio station's morning show at 8am. The show host kept talking to us about racing BMX, and Jed was getting bummed! Sometimes with these interviews, you just go along with it.
20 riders lined up for Pro dirt and 10 were going to the finals that afternoon. There were probably 6 Australians, One American in "Nasty" and the rest were NZ riders' Prelims weren't easy either, NZ locals sending double flips, front flips first set, and 720's. Standouts for NZ were Paul Langlands and host Jed Mildon, who made the finals comfortably.
The finals got going with a 4 run, take top 2 scores format. That gave room for some tricks on the line. Aussie shredders Vince Byron, Nic Cooper, the Colonel Clint and Cam Pianta rode really well and represented for sure, even with the announcer heckling them for being Aussies, it was all in good fun. I had a good day and rode consistent all day so I was pumped with a 3rd place finish, I hadn't really done any moves in 4 months, before breaking my thumb last year. I enjoyed riding for the NZ crowd it was a fun atmosphere and they appreciate it when people take the effort to come to their country.
Jed finished second with the biggest score of the day, he tail whipped off the containers into the roll-in, straight into a front flip first set and finished with a giant flip-whip, nuts run for sure!
Nasty finished on top, he was looking really good all day. He rode like it was Dew Tour finals, even in prelims! Solid riding, big flip-whip, dialed 360 flips and in the finals on his last run, he was the last rider to go and Jed probably had the comp wrapped up. We didnÕt know what Nasty had up his sleeve and he 360 flipped the first set to a massive front flip! Nasty bailed off his bike into the berm and ran away arms up, true Nasty style!
The final day was raining and windy, the rain broke late and Jed decided to skip the park comp and have a team B.I.K.E event. Presently "Down Under" traveler Marcus Tooker joined Cam Pianta, NZ local Seth and myself in a team. There was still a good crowd turn out so it was good to get something going. We gave some tricks a go, but got taken out by the Taupo locals.
It was a great weekend in Taupo and I have to thank Vans and especially Jed for the hard work in organizing the event and making it successful. Jed has plans for something bigger in the future, so keep an eye out for that...

01.29.10Josh Harrington On Cali Filming Mission This first three days of Josh's Cali trip were completely rained out, so when daylight broke on Saturday morning, the Still Searchin' crew hit the streets. Loaded with three video camera and a semi-conscious Tony Ennis, Josh has been clocking footy with Ty Morrow all weekend. Plans to continue to San Diego and LA are on the itinerary, as is a mandatory visit to Josh's bike sponsor Premium BMX down in Vista for some new parts.
Still Searchin' is the follow-up video to the award winning End Search video produced by Josh in 2007.
Get Crispy.
01.29.10Guettler's Edit Take a look at Ryan's edit of the Australia Day Trails Jam- Enjoy!
01.21.10What's Up In Australia Guettler? "Man I've been loving the trails these days, there's a very rad crew who enjoys using a shovel which is hard to find. Most people only want to ride and not help dig, but everyone here seem to help out which is soooo rad.
Keep an eye out for a trails edit soon" -Ryan Guettler
01.18.10Gary Young: Back In Leather Gary Young is back riding after a couple weeks off with a little roto-rooter on his shoulder. Turns out a bone spurs can feel like a torn rotator cuff and GY is back in business sooner than expected. The only thing Gary has to do is wear as much leather as possible to remind his body that he is a bad-ass. Be sure to check out Gary's Then and Now segment on Vital BMX where he talks about growing up with BMX.
01.12.10An important message from Scotty Cranmer We never get e-mails saying "I just landed the first ever ____." Or I'm on a crazy BMX trip in _____."
More often we get e-mails like this one: "Here's a new car I just got I traded my other skyline for it. And I now own my dream car its a 2000 Nissan skyline R34 GTR vspec. My life is now complete." - Scotty
We love you Scotty and appreciate your need for speed. Keep on burning that rice. In unrelated news, here is what you and the rest of the '09 X Games podium would look like if face masks made a come back in the BMX scene.
01.11.10A Flip A Day Keeps The Dr. Away A Back Flip Passion
"I ride with Ali Whitton almost every day and he always seams to lean back every session, I wanted to ask him about his Backie passion." - Colin Mackay
When did you learn the back flip? It was the summer of 98 at Woodward in PA. I did a few in the foam then sent it on the resi. Then a week later I did one in England at the Derby park.
How old were you? 17
When did you figure out some variations in the flip?
The next year I tried flip turndowns. I think I was the first person to do a turn-down flip in England.
What's your favorite variation?
I love just laying a flip superman out. I try to just dead body and hold it.
What's the smallest back flip you've done you think?
Maybe like a 2ft mellow tranny box.
What's the biggest back flip you've done?
I flipped the mega ramp I think that was like 55ft. It felt so good.
Ever done a back flip on the streets?
Yeah a few. I flipped out of a ditch once.

Check it out on Vimeo and watch for that ledge gap to up-rail clip to knock your socks off. This guy used to be a pro racer so you know he isn't scared to go fast. Maybe that's why Gary likes him.

12.29.09Once you go Nastazio, you never go back Leave it to Cory, who knows how Cory Nastazio got onto this reality TV show called Let's Talk About Pep. That's just how he rolls. Going on a date with Jason Kidd's ex-wife and getting ruffed up by the cops is just a warm-up for Nasty. The show looks like a VH1 reality show version of Sex In The City. Check out the trailer to see what I mean:

12.1.09Photo of the Day: Alistair Whitton Since Ali scored the cover of this month's BMX Plus magazine, we thought you should have another dose of his massive Euro Tables. After all, he is European. Salt Lake City 2009.
11.25.09Gary Young caught in the deep end on ESPN Gary has a cool photo of the day on ESPN where he is riding a dug out swimming pool that was once buried by bulldozers. Read all about how it was dug out.
11.24.09DMC, Photo of the Day It's a rare occasion when you need a ladder to shoot photos, but when Dennis McCoy pedals full speed at a 10-ft corner of a concrete bowl, you start looking for things to climb. DMC cranks a turndown at the Shawnee park just outside of Kansas City, Missouri. One of my flashes as it took a swam dive into the deep end and broke into several very expensive pieces. You can thank one of the locals in the background for not chasing after his skateboard. Look for a DMC web vid coming soon. We had a police escort at one of the parks earlier in the day.
11.19.09Gary Young's Props Bio now Online- Worth the Rewind! Even if you've seen Gary Young's Props bio before in Issue 65, it is worth a second look. Somehow they got it on Diversion TV so you should go watch it again and remember how fast this guy pedals at everything.

I was really beat up from a long day of riding but i had to ride Fuzzy's back garden trails. The session was really fun and everyone was having a great time. This is my 9th cover, and my 2nd BMX PLUS cover."
From Fuzzy: "Just some history for your cover shot. I ran that piece of shit Datsun truck in the background thru a Pizza Hut when I was 14 years old and my dad kicked my ass for wrecking it! So awesome!"

11.9.09Mackay back in the saddle (again) Colin Mackay is back riding from a broken hand he managed in Salt Lake City a couple months ago. Mackay was down in San Diego taking care of some business at his bike sponsor Haro and his crew took the afternoon off to ride down at Memorial Skatepark. Here is Colin boosting the hip at Memorial- not bad for his third day back on the bike.Ê The cops made us leave right after this because an crusty old skateboarder was drinking in the back of the skatepark. How is that for back asswards?

10.21.09What's Up With Josh Harrington Vans BMX Team rider Josh Harrington had been filming for his second video until he crashed and broke his hand right before the Salt Lake City stop of the Dew Tour. So, needless to say he canceled his flight and has been out of commission for a bit. With a little R&R and taped up fingers, Josh is competing in Park at Dew Tour goin on this weekend. 10.21.09Coco scores CREAM Magazine INTERVIEW Our BMX Vert Specialist Coco Zurita scored and interview in Cream Magazine this month with shots of his hot car and contest photos from the summer season. Cream is regarded at "the people's" magazine and is known for pushing the limit with their content and especially cover shots.ÊNice work Coco!
10.19.09Orlando Dew Tour Wrap-Up Another crazy contest year has come to end end and our guys are pretty beat up.
TJ Ellis put in work all winter and it really showed in his back-to-back tricks in BMX dirt. Back-flip no-handers straight into front flips and a double backflip here and there for good measure. Ellis finish second at the Orlando event and took home third overall. Transworld sponsored a best-trick comp after the event and Ellis came out swinging with a backflip no hander to tailwhip. Nastazio threw down a front flip turndown and Luke Parslow stuck a perfect double backie. You can bet the off-seaon sessions are going to be wild in the next couple of months.
Park was a pretty big crap-shoot all year with different courses at each event and UK Vans rider Mark Webb stayed in the top ten all year to lock in a third place finish in Orlando and a fourth for the overall season. Mark has been staying at Woodward West all season so he is itching to get back to some rainy weather back home.Ê Look out for periodic web videos soon. You know he can't stay off the internet for very long.
Vert was the same as it always is. Big and scary. Vans rider Coco Zurita kept climbing up the charts at each contest and fought his way up to a top five spot in the overall standings by earning a seventh in Orlando and locking in fifth place for the overall season. Be sure that the money is burning a hole in his pocket and he is looking for deals on digi cams as we speak.

10.08.09New Diogo Canina X Games Ad From Diamondback Check out Diogo Canina's new web ad on Vitalbmx.com shot at X Games 15. Diogo took home a silver medal the last two years and Diamondback is stoked. A clicked lookaback from Diogo who is probably studying Economic Development down in Brazil at the moment. He is one hell of a day trader. Not bad for 6 months brakeless.
10.06.09New Zealand Jam in January Since we have quite a few rippers from down under, many of these snowbirds fly back home for December-Feb. Check out this New Zealand jam that Guettler, Mackay, Parlsow and Toohey will all probably be at in a few months. From Colin Mackay via Jed.

9.28.09Jaie Toohey Moto-whip vid from Fuzzy's Jam
A moto-whip is one of those classic BMX tricks that never gets old and is appropriate at any party- and Jaie Toohey can rip them. Watch this clip from Fuzzy's Jam where Jaie's right hand peels off the handle bars behind his back, you can't bake style like that. But if you could you'd need a lot of sugar.
9.25.09Coco Zurita's Checkboard Bike Check On Fat BMX Check out Coco Zurita's bike check on Fat BMX. I'm sure he'll get a hundred e-mails about where to buy that checkboard tape. Looking fresh Coco!
9.24.09Salt Lake City Dew Tour The big show in Salt Lake City was in BMX Dirt with TJ Ellis battling it out for a spot in the finals and proved himself with a huge backflip no-hander and a first-ever front flip tailwhip on the last set. The frontie whip has never been done in a dirt final at the Dew Tour so you can be sure the crowd went bananas when TJ pulled that one out of the bag. Diogo Canina was riding brakeless in the finals and was clocking huge 360 lookbacks before shooting off the side of the hip and into the middle of the third jump. Classic move Joe!
The park course was a tough sell for a lot of the Vans riders, but Gary Young found himself in the mix with some creative lines like foot-plant boosts over the box jump backwards and nasty clicked look-backs. Our UK Team rider Mark Webb put down some hot moves as well with giant 360 tables over the spine and a mind-blowing 720 decade over the box jump.
Our lone vert rider Coco Zurita was pretty amped to throw down in vert finals but his glove got caught on his brake lever during his run and tossed him over the backs like a sack of potatoes leaving him in 9th place and enough money to get the windows tinted on his Evo and some new tires for back road rally racing in Tehachapi.
9.22.09Press List: Cam White Cam White answers the questions you've asked. Check it now on Vital.
9.21.09Vans Riders Nominated For NORA Cup, Awards On Thursday Night! Ride BMX Magazine has released their list of nominees for the Number One Riders Awards for 2009 and Vans has a few riders in the running in several of the categories:

Dirt: Chase Hawk
Street: Ty Morrow
The awards will be on Thursday night at the House of Blues in Las Vegas, NV as part of the annual Interbike Convention. Chase Hawk will also have his video part in Stay Fit dropping after the awards show so it will be a big night for Chase with two NORA nominations and what is sure to be a banger section for the Fit vid. The NORA Cup awards are voted on by pro riders only so it is a big deal to get such esteemed recognition from your industry peers. Gary won a ramp NORA Cup in 2005 so he is back in the mix again. Stay tuned for more news on Friday!
9.21.09Ride to Glory - Vote for Vans! A couple of weeks ago the Vans UK BMX Team went on the Ride BMX Magazine's 'Ride to Glory'. This is where you come in - it's pretty simple - we need your vote! The DVD is covermounted with the magazine but you can vote without seeing it - trust me - ours is the best edit. So...please vote for Vans... tell your friends, put it up on Facebook, add it to your blog or forward this email to your mates...whatever gets us the most votes, thanks all!
9.18.09The Pool Is Full Dude: Gary Young Goes Deep Fatbmx.com has a cool little feature about Gary Young embarking on some SCUBA adventures with PADI. We know that when Gary was doing his SCUBA training he was secretly planning to pull the plug in the deep end and ride the pool later that night. He is headed to Catalina Island in October to do some more training and then rumor has it that he is headed all over the globe for some underwater adventures.
9.18.09Fuzzy Hall Re-Session Dirt Jam Photos!
Pro BMX Rider and master dirt jump sculpter, Fuzzy Hall held a jam at his backyard trails the day before Dew Tour practice started so naturally everyone flew in early and hucked themselves! The jam was pretty nuts with crazy $600 watches as prizes for Best Turndown, Best Nac-Nac, and Best Trick. Ryan Guettler ended up winning best trick with a backflip indian air on the last jump and walked away with some cash as well. Some were saying it was Fuzzy's mortgage payment! The weather here in Salt Lake City is pretty close to perfect so we are in store for an amazing event. Dirt pre-lims are tonight!

9.10.09Mark Webb "Webbie Broadcast" One of the Vans UK riders has been stepping up the web video game all summer. Mark Webb is basically like On Demand TV for your laptop or iPhone. here is the latest installment of his mini ramp mayhem. The manual to frontflip is pretty awesome, but what surprised me the most was the fufanu to hop-up wall-tap. Is that a first-ever? Blink and you'll miss it!

9.01.09Gary Young Goes Deuce In Korea! It's not very often that a rider can win two events at one contest, and it's even more rare that the other event is a box-jump high-air contest. But hey, this is South Korea and they run their own program.Well the juicy one, Gary Young won both events this weekend in South Korea and blasted the box jump 5.3 meters high. Gary was rewarded with a middle seat on the flight home and 8.7Million Won!. Gary won this contest last year so we will be looking for a 3-peat in 2010! Thanks to the KXF and the Extreme Sports B3 Championships.
(Pics coming soon! Gary just landed!)
9.01.09Alistair Whitton POV Video If Alistair could find a way to mount a camera to the inside of his stomach to see how is food is digested, he would have done that by now. Until then, enjoy this quick rail session with Ali and some camera mounted on his pegs.
8.24.09Questions With Colin Mackay
I just want to know how did you get to where you are now?
I’d say determination and a lot of passion, be cool, ride smart, and ride hard.
When did you first start?
I first started riding at my first year of High School, when I was 13. Id Skated before that, so I had been around the scene. The first time I went to a Skate park was on a Skateboard. My neighbor was into BMX and Id spy on him riding this sick BMX down the Street, once I started hanging out with him, I got into BMX. My first sponsor was either Strictly BMX or a clothing company that a mate had at the time, called Miss productions, that was when I was around 17. That was discount bike parts and free clothes.
I want to be just like you and ride BMX for a living...
Cool man sounds good. It honestly wasn’t something I thought would happen, so I still appreciate it every day that’s for sure. It’s a hard world for sure, but it can be rewarding. Laying there in hospital with a injury sucks, but blasting a massive air out of a quarter is the best feeling in the world. The only time I class BMX as a job is when it’s at a contest and its windy or the jumps suck, and you’re over it, but you still have to ride and send your self.
Where did you do your first BMX comps?
Beenleigh, QLD, Australia for sure, every year there was Amateur comps there and I loved it. And I couldn’t wait to watch the Pro’s ride. That was 1993-1998.
How did you first get sponsored, did people just come up to you or what?
My first sponsor was Strictly BMX bike shop or a clothing company that a mate had at the time called Miss Productions that was when I was around 17. The deals were discount bike parts and free clothes. A friend of mine started the clothing deal, and the Bike Shop deal I met the owner at the Planet X Games at the Gold Coast in like 1998 and he told me to hit him up if I needed any deals on parts. Australian deals are way different to USA deals… If your sponsored in Australia you generally get free stuff, in the States you also get a check.
Where did you get all the money and support to do it all and travel everywhere?
Luckily for me my current sponsors, Haro Bikes/Rockstar Energy Drink and Vans Shoes send me around to the events around the world and put me up in nice hotels. Without this support, Id be working in a factory like I once did.
Thanks for the Questions and I hope I helped you understand things a little better…
Keep shredding, Colin Mackay
8.20.09Nasty Jam Recap In between handling business and playing party host, Vans Team rider Cory Nastazio invited some pretty heavy names to his pad, not only ride, but to raise money to support Stephen Murray and Mikey Aitken. Colin Mackay, Josh Harrington, T.J. Ellis, Chase Hawk, Cam White, T.J. Lavin, and a bunch of other riders met up in Cory's backyard. Take a look at the pics and full story in the October BMX Plus Mag out now.

8.18.09Do It Yourself Quick-Crete With Scotty Cranmer
Enjoy this sequence of events that starts with boredom on a rainy day and turns into a cross-town scavenger hunt for the ingredients to make a basement quarter-pipe in Scotty Cranmer's basement...
8.18.09Cranmer Makes Podium In BMX Dirt! It's not that strange to see Scotty Cranmer on the podium, but it is usually a park podium where he is holding a big fat check. Cranmer made the grade in BMX dirt this weekend at the second stop of the AST Dew Tour in Portland, Oregon and went on to take third place ahead some riders he usually never competes against. Good job Scotty, you aren't used to having rocks in your shoes, are you!?
8.17.09Alistair Whitton Assault Vehicle Why is Alistair Whitton driving a tank? All you need to know is that "It isn't loaded so don't worry."
If there were ammo for this tank we'd all be in trouble. It's a 50yr old Czech transport unit with the cannon disabled.
What Oakley wants, Oakley gets.

8.04.09Ty Morrow Wins Silver Medal And Cash Money
Ty Morrow was able to wake up in time to compete in X Games BMX Street finals, and it's a good thing he did because he had a silver medal waiting for him at the end of the day. Ty dropped some bombs like a 360 to oppo 360 off the big ledge, a giant 180 down the big set and was all-around the steeziest dude on the course. Rocking Vans helps because the judges were taking points away for the rat's nest in his hair. Congratulations Ty, now go ice down your wrists, that last session looks like it hurt! Also, don't forget to check out the vid...
7.31.09Vans BMX Dominates Podium At X Games 15 Vans BMX took park riding to a whole new level at X Games 15 and put all waffle soles on the podium. It would be Scotty Cranmer walking away with the gold, Diogo Canina with the silver and top qualifier Gary Young with the Bronze. It was quite an exciting contest to watch, with an amazing course design by Nate Wessel and non-stop action format. Highlights included a backflip double tailwhip from Cranmer and a huge flair over the cradle gap. Diogo was hitting the flair as well and whipped out a crazy 360 backflip step-up out of the mini-ramp section. Gary was going every direction, jumping in and out of the pool bowl and gapping out of bowl at Mach 10 speeds.Ê Guettler, who had won the ASA Triples Contest the night before was spinning 720s all over the course and looked like he would get on the podium too, but when the dust settled it was Scotty Diogo and Gary.
7.31.09Josh Harrington Video on Bnqt.com Josh is back from the winter hibernation. The VX1000 has it's heads cleaned and footy is being clocked for his next vid, Still Searchin. Check out this edit on Bnqt by Tony Ennis.
7.31.09Gary Young Qualifies First In X Games 15
Gary Young qualified first in X Games Park on Thursday afternoon. The juicy one the hell out of the course with crazy transfers, high speed line, a loop in the cradle and his hair is out of control. Sham Wow and Smart Mop will have to team up to clean up tomorrow's mess. This is nuts. Gary, Chase Hawk, Scotty Cranmer, Ryan Guettler, and Diogo Canina all made the cut so put your Vans on and watch the madness on ESPN.

Ryan Guettler took home big win this weekend at the BMX Park Contest adjacent to the US Open of surfing in Huntington Beach. While double overhead waves were crashing down 50 yards away, Guettler was putting together one of the best contest runs of his career. Ryan had solid qualifying runs in the three days prior and brought out the big guns during the finals. Ryan's highlights included a double backflip right off the bat and stuck a flair tailwhip, flair 1-footed x-up. Guettler walked away with $10,000 and some crazy water proof cell phone with 3 months free service. He asked, " Can I call Australia for free?!"

Josh has been riding with Ty Morrow and Rob Darden at a bunch of amazing street spots and just wrapped up a still photo for his next Vans Bmx print ad. Look for those steezy Dunbars with the purple laces and you'll get an idea of how gnarly this video is going to be. Josh is headed to Huntington Beach tomorrow for a contest on the beach and will be chilling in LA during X Games.
7.16.09Josh and Ty Rocky Mountain High Josh, Ty and myself are headed out to Colorado for the next week to shoot some Vans ads and get started filming on Josh's next video. It looks like rain for the next week so you can be sure that the rental van will be way over on mileage as we try to dodge some gnarly weather and get some clips. Tony Ennis is behind the lens so you know the footage is going to be CRISPY.

7.9.09The Default List With Scotty Cranmer *Exclusive interview for Vans
By Kosman
We all have our default people, places and things.
Stuff we can count on to get the job done.
Something we can trust to deliver, every time.
It's "The Default List" with Scotty Cranmer.
DEFAULT BIKE SHOP:
My shop or Staff Bike Shop. I am really lucky to have my own and to have the best bmx mailorder so local. They always got the goods and both shops have great people on call.
DEFAULT PIZZA PLACE:
Definitely Knockout pizza. One of my longtime best friends owns the place and it is goooood! If you're ever in the Lakewood/Brick NJ area check them out!
DEFAULT SANDWICH SHOP:
Jersey Mike's in Howell, NJ. I became a super-local there. I know all of the guys and they are all funny dudes! I'm a #9 kind of guy.
DEFAULT CAR TO TAKE TO THE AIRPORT:
My old Honda Civic for sure. I used to leave the keys in the car with the doors unlocked and she was always there when i got back! Don't leave an Escalade at Newark Airport unless you don't like your iPod and just about anything else valuable inside.
DEFAULT CAR TO TAKE ON A DATE:
My Mitsubishi Evo. It may be bumpy as hell and ridiculously loud, but she's reliable and doesn't get an unbelievable amount of attention like the GTRs. The Nissan Skylines are second date cars!
DEFAULT BIKE TO RIDE STREET:
Definitely the brakeless bike, it just feels right!
DEFAULT TRICK TO DO WITH 5 SECONDS LEFT ON THE CLOCK: The good old frontflip no-hander it takes the least amount of energy and is pretty predictable.
DEFAULT DRINK IN THE FRIDGE:
It's all about the purple Monster!
DEFAULT SONG ON YOUR iPOD TO GET YOU PUMPED: Any Jack's Mannequin song but drop out ( the so unknown ) by them will do the trick.
DEFAULT VIDEO GAME:
Call Of Duty 5 for Playstation3. I'm franchisekiller1. Come say what's up!
DEFAULT SHOES TO RIDE IN:
Right now its the Vans Tolan, they feel real proper and I can't get out of them! Sometimes I sleep in them!
DEFAULT PERSON YOU CALL TO CURE YOUR BOREDOM:
Cory Berglar, my cousin Buzzy or Glenn. They're all good guys and we always find something to do!

5.27.09Coco Zurita's Competition Run Down
This last weekend was the ASA Action Sports World Tour, which took place in Cincinnati, Ohio. Coco gave us a run down on the comp...
"It was amazing, we stayed at the Great Wolf Lodge, where we got to enjoy their amazing in door water park, it was a blast, and the contest was only half mile down the road from the hotel, right inside the Kings Island park,
after prelims, we hit all the rides and roller coasters.
On prelims I qualified 7th place, with my first run and on Sunday for finals, some heavy hitters made up the final round. Riders like Chad Kagy, Simon Tabron, Jay Eggleston, Jimmy Walker, Steve McCann, Tom Stober, Jorge Jovel, John Parker and Koji Kraft. I got a really good first run together which placed me in the top 3, after the hole loop of riders when trough, I ended up 5th. I couldn't put together a good second run, so I stayed with that 5th place which for me is really good. I had a lot of fun, and am healthy too, this is the first comp of the year so there is plenty more to shred, enjoy the pics."

5.18.09Ali Update: Tour is over, headed to FISE
"Well the WHEELS OF ROCK BMX AND MUSIC TOUR is over, we ended the trip in Troys at a concrete bowl with big dirt jumps on the side. The two French kids rode and got 2nd and 3rd in the bowl jam. Mackay and myself rode the dirt jumps but it was raining the whole time and a bit weird. Bibi showed up and did a sweet nac-nac seat grab on the biggest jump.
The bands played in a gymnasium down the road and they had a flatland vs break-dance OFF; it was amazing. Some 19 year old world champ flatlander did some of the most amazing things I've ever seen in my life on a bike. Unreal. Well, were chilling in Lyon for a few days then going to the Fise contest."
-Alistair Whitton

We will keep you updated here for iPhone uploads from the US ridaz!
VANS are sold in the Navy Exchange Supermarket on base, and some Skaters and Bikers on the team were invited to be involved with the customer appreciation weekend. Bucky Lasek, Omar Hussan, Josh Boarden were the Skaters, and Scotty Cramner, Ryan Guettler, Coco Zurita, Michael Steingrabber and I were the Bikers.
The first 2 days were spent visiting some Elementary (or Primary) Schools on the bases and getting tours of the Aircraft Hangers and the George Washington Aircraft Carrier. The Schools we visited had around 300 kids and we did a demo on flat ground on the Basketball Court, but we usually found something to use to bunny-hop over. The kids got so pumped at any trick, so it made the experience fun.
Saturday the 2nd May was the main day for the Customer Appreciation event. We got to do 2 demos on ramps the Nate Wessel built for us. Box jump and ¼ set up. The ramps were dialed, but strong winds were a little tough. We managed to get 2 demo’s done and showed the kids a little more than some flat ground moves from the days before…
Straight after the massive autograph session we packed up and got the train to Tokyo, 12 of us from VANS, our entire luggage going on public transport was a mission. We arrived in Shibuya, Tokyo after 1 and a half hours and checked into one of the nicer hotels in the area.
Shibuya can be somewhat compared to Times Square in NYC, Its got all the shopping, electronic bill-boards, and people you could fit in one area. We took a day trip to the markets and to an electronics shopping district and we got to go to a Karaoke bar with my good mate Shoe-G (from Tokyo) were he set the place on fire with “Welcome to the Jungle”.
Japan was a great trip; it was fun mixing with the Skaters on the team and session together at the school, on the ramps and at the bar. We had no problems at all getting around, 90% of stuff has English written underneath the Japanese. Everywhere we went was super clean, and the people were real polite.
I have to thank VANS once again for an amazing trip…"

5.05.09Ryan Guettler's Update From Japan "Sup Blokes,
Im sitting at LAX airport waiting to fly to Greenville, I was just in Japan for the last week. I had to do a Vans demo for the US military with Colin Mackay, Bucky, Coco, Scotty and Josh. It turned out being really fun, there was a crazy flu scare so the plane ride was abit scary but we got there safe. Nate Weassl built a sweet set up with a 10-foot box, which was rad. The demos went really good every one was riding well and the troops seemed to love it but there were a lot of calls for the ÒBACKIE.Ó There was a Vans filmier so keep and eye out for a podcast from Vans. We got to go around and look at the jets, aircraft carrier and some subs, really crazy to see in person SO big. After 4 days of demos we got 2 days off so we split to Tokyo and did some shopping and sight seeing. I brought some weird gadgets that you will only find in Japan, one is the little cube sound box for ipod the size of a bottle cap but super loud. Also got a watch that took me about an hour to read the time but looks sick hahaha. Tokyo is like another planet, every one is like 4 foot and no English at all so it was hard to get a jack and coke. They also don't like tattoos so I stood out real bad we would get on the train and I'd see people whispering or just straight up point at me pretty crazy so I got a long sleeve t-shirt. Its good to be almost home. I'm going to finish up the web edit on the backyard ramps and start building up a new bike.
I donÕt want to see any sushi for a while haha
Talk soon guys

2.02.09Cranmer's Paintball Mansion If you have ever been to Scotty Cranmer's Skatepark, then you know it's packed with scooters for most of the day. So with after-hours being the best time to ride an empty park, it only makes sens that Scotty would spend the daylight hours playing paintball inside his house.
2.02.09Alistair Whitton Non-Stop Video Production You know the weather has been bad in Greenville if Ali has been buying up video toys like these.
He recently picked up a mini-remote camera that he rigged up to his BMX bike and put together this video from a couple runs in The Unit. You can see him look down into the camera during one of the backflips. What a rockstar.

12.22.08 Ryan In Tahiti What up guys-
Just thought I'd let you know what I've been up to lately. Left America on the 11th of Dec. and came to sunny Tahiti to do a demo before going home to Aus. I'm in Tahiti for a week and only have to do a 20 min demo on Sat night- pretty sweet. Been here 4 days and already done so much, found the local trails on the first day, so me and Josh Boatright have been riding them every day. We both got local tats from a guy in a shack on the beach, I got a shark on the foot and Josh got a bird on his arm- pretty funny. Been swimming and kayaking every day straight and I'm sun burnt all over haha. Today we're ment to go shark feeding so I'll take more photos and I'm going to try and edit a video from this trip so I'll send more soon.

discusses why he rides BMX and how it has changed his life. Alistair is
known throughout the pro community for his all-or-nothing attitude and fun-loving
personality. Alistair takes us back to his early riding days in the U.K.
before turning to traveling stunt shows, which provided a taste of his life
to come. He discusses the impact Camp Woodward has had on his pro BMX career
and its affect on his life away from riding. Alistair then sets off for
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to pick up his MacNeil teammates and Vans Teammate
Gary Young, giving them a tour of some of his favorite spots on the East
Coast and in his home of Greenville, North Carolina. In Greenville we encounter
a handful of the "Pro-Town" locals such as Ryan Guettler. Alistiar exemplifies
his thirst for fun as we take a day to enjoy some of his daily activities,
hit local spots and ride motocross with pro BMX riders Dave Mirra and Stephen
Lilly. All this is a well earned break from the stressful life of a pro
rider before he once again heads out on the contest circuit to try and keep
the dream alive.
05.09.08 Pizza and meatballs vs skateboards and BMX bikes Last week the Vans demo team took a trip across the pond to Naples, Italy
for a mini ramp demo at the US Naval Support Base. The base actually had
a little pre-fab skatepark that the guys rode for a couple days while Nate
Wessel and Ryan Corrigan built the 6-ft mini ramp. Bucky Lasek, Josh Bordon,
Ryan Guettler and Coco Zurita and Michael Steingraber shredded the ramp
for a couple days in front of the Navy Exchange mall with hundreds of kids
hanging out and demanding autographs. The crew made a couple visits to the
schools on base and Michael busted out flatland tricks in the gymnasium
before some crazy karate demo went down. The kids were psyched for sure.
Check out the photos from the demo and the gnarly shot of Josh dropping
in from the sub rail! Nuts! He landed it first try!
